I had always had a fascination for computer games, and the words how and why were ever present in my mind when it came to systems.
My first professional opportunity came in 2003, when I pestered Chad Barczak enough that he relented and gave me a shot as a junior developer. It was a classic ASP and SQL server shop, and I quickly got a taste for server side code and the magic of databases. After getting some great real world experience and gaining some great colleages and friends, among them Kin Lane, Jeff Kast, and Kent Schnepp, company restructuring effectively pushed me out of the nest.
In 2005 I took a position with Palo Alto Software as a web application developer. Here I got thrown into the world of Coldfusion, and it’s realm of tag based syntax. Working at Palo Alto was really a great experience. While being held to production goals, developers were left to freely explore new approaches and avenues of implementation that yeilded strikingly innovative solutions. I was able to learn about version control, IIS server administration, SQL Server administration, Coldfusion administration, and practical applications of object oriented programming in a web environment.
In order to be closer to parts of my family I felt I was losing touch with, and to enjoy the Central Oregon lifestyle, I accepted a position with Altrec.com and relocated to Bend, Oregon in 2008. It was at this point in my life I decided it was time to finish up my formal education and completed my Information Technology (programming emphasis) undergraduate work.
During this time I had the opportunity to learn apache administration in either a Windows or Linux environment. I also switched to using php as a programming language of choice, and MySQL as my preferred database technology.
I have switched the lion’s share of my work to reside on Amazon Cloud Services, which I have found to be the most viable alternative in terms of cost, up-time, and accessibility to traditional hosting for developers at my level.
Currently I am employed with a small development firm that caters to non-profit industries called Zuri Group. I am pursuing my graduate degree in Information Technology Business Intelligence.
I have a wife and three daughters, and we do our best to enjoy all our home offers.
